Frequently Asked Questions
-
ABA therapy helps children develop social skills like eye contact, turn-taking, and interacting with others. It also improves verbal and non-verbal communication, enabling them to express needs and wants. Children gain daily living and academic skills that foster independence, while positive strategies reduce challenging behaviors and teach healthy ways to manage emotions and situations.
-
Children over 3 need an autism diagnosis for services, which can be obtained through a pediatric referral and evaluation by a licensed professional. Children under 3 may qualify for early intervention without a diagnosis.
-
ABA therapy services are provided and overseen by a BCBA, a professional certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. BCBAs may have backgrounds in psychology, therapy, or special education and are specially trained in Applied Behavior Analysis. They use evidence-based strategies to improve socially meaningful behaviors in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and work closely with families to create and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each child’s unique needs.
-
Behavior Technicians complete required training that includes foundational ABA principles, ethical standards, behavior intervention strategies, and safety procedures. They are supervised by a BCBA through ongoing oversight, including regular direct observation, weekly check-ins, and continuous performance feedback. In addition, technicians participate in monthly training and ongoing education to ensure high-quality, effective therapy.
-
All in-home therapy requires an adult over 18 years old to be present throughout the session. In the clinic setting, a caregiver does not need to be present, and you may drop the child off. Caregivers do not need to participate in the entirety of direct ABA therapy sessions but are required to participate in parent training and communication with supervisors and board-certified behavior analysts.
-
The duration of your child needing ABA therapy will depend on factors such as age, level of delays, and response to ABA treatment. Because we cover a wide range of developmental areas and need to ensure generalization of skills across people and settings, you should expect your child to need ABA therapy for at least 1-2 years, and often longer.
-
The hourly commitment will depend on various factors, but children within our direct ABA therapy program can expect to be scheduled for 10-40 hours of sessions per week.
-
ABA identifies harmful behaviors and their triggers, then teaches safer alternative responses. The goal is to replace harmful behaviors with safe and effective communication strategies.

In-Home
Attendance: Schedules are created with the guardian, BCBA, and technician to best meet the child’s needs. Families should maintain consistent attendance.
Cancellations: Notify us at least 24 hours in advance, except in emergencies. Frequent or unexcused cancellations (over 15% per month) may affect progress, insurance coverage, or result in service termination.
In-School
Attendance: Schedules are coordinated with the school, guardian, and BCBA to support the student’s educational and developmental needs. Consistent participation is essential. Parents should inform the ABA team of absences in advance. Therapy adapts to classroom routines and supports instructional activities.
Cancellations/Interruptions: Schools should notify us promptly if sessions need adjustment due to events, staffing changes, or other circumstances. Frequent missed sessions may adversely affect student progress and can impact insurance and IEP compliance.
